Hi Unlikely Hikers & friends,
Happy New Year!
Jenny Bruso, here. I’ve been trying to send this newsletter for awhile, but there have been so many moving parts and new developments every freaking day—blah, blah, blah let’s just get right into it.
The very good: we were supposed to take January off from group hikes to work on our group hiking calendar for the year(!) and we are mostly staying true to that, but then I got a lil job opportunity in LA, so of course I had to figure out how to squeeze some events in while I’m on the move. Los Angeles and Sacramento folks, register NOW for our events happening in just 2 weeks!
Newsletter subscribers always get 24-hour priority registration when you note on the registration form that you’re a newsletter subscriber in the “How did you find out about this event?” space.
Save these dates:
February 4 - Portland, OR - registration opening 1/19*
February 5 - ACCESSIBLE - Portland, OR - registration opening 1/19*
February 18 - Tucson, AZ - registration opening 1/19
February 19 - Albuquerque, NM - registration opening 1/19
February 25 - San Diego, CA - registration 2/1
Pro-tip: save those registration opening dates and register as early as possible. The invites typically go live around 9am.
*Portland folks, please only sign up for one of these events. You will have an option on the registration forms to let us know if you’re available for either date. We want to make sure that everyone gets an equal opportunity to join 1 of the events and that folks who need or prefer the Accessible hike don’t get waitlisted, though everyone is welcome at our Accessible hikes.
In March, we are trying to schedule hikes in Richmond (VA), South Carolina, Atlanta (GA) and hopefully Tennessee.
Through spring, we are also working on events in Denver (CO), Minneapolis (MN), the Bay Area (CA), Chicago (IL), Michigan, Montana and either Ohio or Indiana and there will be other locations as well. I don’t want to be super vague, but I also don’t want to say too much and deliver too little. Just know we are working on a lot.
More very good news that got a little weird all within 1 week: I’ve hinted at it here and there, but just a week ago I finally got the ok to announce that the new Unlikely Hikers X Merrell shoe collaboration was going to be launched—and then it got paused a day before the official launch date due to some inventory stuff. There is no new official date, but it is SOON.
Please use our special link if you purchase any of it! Unlikely Hikers gets a sweet percentage of the sale when you use the link: https://prf.hn/l/xny5GVG (also linked on unlikelyhikers.org)
The shoe will be available in a low and mid (boot) style, in sizes beyond Merrell’s usual range—up to a 13 in “women’s” and 15 in “men’s.” All will be available in a standard or wide width and there’s a full line of size-inclusive accessories, too! Here are some photos of the shoe:

Alright, we’re gonna put a pin in this update, but we’ll be sending another update as soon as we have the new info about the shoe. ❤️🥾Jenny B & the UH Squad
